Hey guys, I keep on coming across vanilla (and mixtures of it) or anise or both.. what have you tried and found that works?!

Scent free works better IMO. I have seen deer run the other way from what we think they like to smell... :)
Watching trailing dogs work they notice ANYTHING different, even if its a natural scent, if it was not there before they take notice. I would be sure deer do the same.
I'm not convinced that deer really care unless it is current smell. the buck i got this year walked right up my tracks that I had made going in 5 hours earlier. He walked to within 10ft of me. but I'm sure if he had a fresh whiff of me he would have taken off. I have had several deer follow my tracks in.
Yearling bucks are curious and stupid. Strange scents may draw them in.
Older bucks and does - anything out of the ordinary likely lessens your chances.
interesting.. and yet oner the years, I've talked to several hunters who swear by various concoctions.. vanilla extract being one of them.. then there are those who burn the sticks.. tried those once - man, they stink!
One year I used Buck Bomb (when it was legal) and a buck ran directly to me from across a field... without question it came to my scent. But BB is a natural doe urine, so I guess that's different than the types of scents I am referring to.
