i thought it was illegal to use a drone for anything that has to do with hunting?
I think it's fine to fly your camera in the non-hunting season. Call it scouting if you will.
My dad is a recently retired professional cameraman with his drone license. The camera stopped working on the drone he has, otherwise after reading this thread might have given it a shot just to get a better overview of the new property.
When considering the legality of using a drone, think about what the purpose of the flight is. Looking for animals during the off season is ok but not during the season if your intentions are focused on hunting. Using a drone to get the “lay of the land” (similarily to using a satellite or aerial photo) such as determining access and property boundaries, vegetation information, etc. should be ok.
