Triple 7

Can't find 209 so decide to try triple 7 209 i use the volume tubes but can you weigh the triple 7 or is it volume .Thanks

For loose 777 FFG powder I use 100 grains measured by volume in a powder measure. For consistency, I pour level with the top of the measure then use my finger to flick tap the side of the measure to let the powder settle, then I top it with three last couple of millimetres. 50 cal TC Omegas and 250 grain TC Shockwaves. Better than MOA at 100yds off the bench. That 777 is great stuff. easy clean up. Way better than pyrodex. I’d take 777 over 209 any day.

No i do not

I prefer Triple7 FFG. Clean up is easy with Dawn Soap and Water followed by Ballistol.
I like to measure by weight.

1st method - decide on your black powder amount. Multiply by .85 to get Triple7 FFG equivalent in grains by volume. Then multiply again by .777 to get the grains by weight of Triple7 FFG.

2nd method - if don't need to know the Triple7 FFG grains volume, then can do shortcut by multiplying by only .66
(select the black powder amount you want then multiply by .66 to get Triple7 FFG grains by weight).

Examples:
Method 1 - want to match 150 gr of black powder
150 gr bp x .85 = 127.5 gr 777FFG by volume.
127.5 gr 777FFG by volume x .777 = 99 gr 777FFG by weight
(99 gr of 777FFG measured on scale is equivalent to 150 black powder by volume)

Method 2 - want to match 150 gr of black powder
150 gr bp x .66 = 99 gr 777FFG by weight.
(99 gr of 777FFG measured on scale is equivalent to 150 black powder by volume)

My muzzleloader has a 150 grain black powder max, like most are.
I load 97 gr by weight of Triple7 FFG to hunt moose and deer.
I load 75 gr by weight of Triple7 FFG to plink for target practice.
99 gr by weight of Triple7 FFG would be the max i would weight out since that equals the 150 gr black powder safety limit of my CVA.

Windshield washer fluid works great to clean up T7 residue.

Thanks for the info i actually purchased the volume measure , could not find my old one ,thats why I was asking about measuring by weight.

That's great about the ballistics but to clarify you should compare apples to apples. 100g of BH209 by volume weighs 70g compared to the 100g by weight of 2 regular 777 pellets. BH209 is much more efficient. Too bad these days it's rarer than hen's teeth in Canada.
