Again this year my bunnies disappeared come October. In the Spring and Summer they are everywhere, no doubt due to prime breeding conditions but come Fall... Poof ! , they vanish. The squirrels are still abundant. Could migrating birds of prey be a factor ? I haven't heard of a Tularemia outbreak in the area but there was one a few years back down at Long Point that hit the Musk Rats and bunny populations pretty good.
Maybe if we get some snow I can spot tracks.
Looking forward to some Jack hunting down here in Essex County.
Just need a good blanket of snow and its go time!
Same in our area. Lots of bunnies in the summer. None now. Not even seeing tracks in the snow.
I,am assuming were are talking cotton tails, maybe with all those migrating birds of prey down your area the bunnies have it figured out.Quote:

I’ve been feeding wild bunnies at my abode for 6-7 years now. It got to the point where they knew exactly what time I’d be putting the feed out. I swear last year I had every rabbit in the area coming in to get fed. At times I could walk out the door and they wouldn’t move or leave. They were like pets. I miss not having them around…
Just curious, what do you feed them? I used to let the clover grow thick and long in one area of the lawn to try and keep them out of my garden. They would just lay there and munch away all evening.Quote:

around where I hunt deer you never see bunnies anymore except around houses. Too many coyotes around. Farmer and I were talking about that yesterday , there only tracks around the buildings. I was out yesterday with enough snow to cover the ground, lots of deer, squirrel and coyote tracks in the bush, but rabbit tracks around barn and brush piles near barn.
Dean, just rabbit pellets that I get from the co op here in town and left over carrots out of the garden. I’ve also had them under my bird feeder eating the seeds that have fallen from the feeder by active birds.
