Just getting in to Coyote hunting at my daughter's farm. They are overrun with them, and they have been trying to get to her chickens at night.
I have a ICOTEC caller and a .223 but wondering if it is necessary to use a motion decoy. They are a bit pricey and wondering if it would be $ well spent.
Last time I was there I saw 3 of them but didn't have the caller with me and couldn't get close enough for a shot. lol

I've had several cases where they get so focused on the decoy that it's given me the option to move a bit. I will say that 90% of the time I shoot way before I can notice if it's working or not when I'm the shooter. growing up out west and being in the military have given me the confidence and skill set to shoot out past 300 yards with very good consistency, but when my wife is the shooter we tend to let them come in closer (sub 200) and that's where the decoy shines
I use a motion decoy with the same caller you have. It makes quite a difference as a point of reference for 'yotes to home in on.Quote:

I had a local sign shop make me a life sized coloured silhouette of a red fox. He just took an image from online. Looked the same on both sides. It’s printed on the plastic cardboard like election signs are. I cut it out and used the same wire that slides into the signs. Coyotes hate red foxes and it helps keep their eye off of you when calling. Place it a good distance from yourself. Mine is a dozen years old and still looks good.

I have a Lucky Duck , Screaming Joker model that I'm going to try out. I fired it up with the Crying Rabbit and my Lab went nuts for it ! How far out can you place those things ? I have two spots to hunt , one is in the woods up in my treestand and the other is my treestand looking out over a empty cornfield. For the cornfield I would use my Remington 788 4x Bushnell scope .22-.250 but in the woods my options are greater as I could use up my Buckshot or rifled slugs in one of my smoothbores.
