Im glad it went back, why would you kill something 60 years old for 15 minutes of fame
of course this fish has contributed to the lakes genetics for the last approx 55 years so I would have also understood if he wanted to keep it as well.. would have made the mount of a life time.
But I would have also returned it, just how I roll ....When you have a legit record you know its good...which is all that really counts.
I have 3 records and some close ones carp 55-1/4lbs, lake ontario nuke plant pickering honorable mention 19-1/4 lbs walleye nuke plant as well . yellow perch 3.5 lbs eastern Ontario. and small mouth bass 14 plus lbs in large Haliburton lake ....can I prove it...nope...

It’s nice that he returned it, after all you can’t enjoyably eat something that big. If he wanted to keep it to get the record that would be understandable too, but wouldn’t it still be eligible for a C&R record after he videoed the measuring of it?
