Just picked up a A400(new), any recommendations with turkey choke tub/ammo combo's?
I have a Carlson longbeard choke with Longbeard XR turkey loads. Dead kills out past 50 yds. With my 870…..
I have a Beretta A400 Unico. I use a Carlson turkey choke but it’s not the long beard version, but I do use 3 1/2 #5s long beards XR. It’s a good combo but I would recommend you practice to see what range you’re comfortable with.
I use my Browning stock full choke with #5 Remington 2 3/4 -3 " shells and have been successful at 37ish yards. how ever after missing a couple last year maybe its time to try a custom turkey choke and maybe check my eye site Lol.
Any recommendations for a my Browning?
Maybe not the eye sight but the form. The birds I have "missed" all had one thing in common. To much time getting to me had me watching the bird to the point when it came time to shoot wasn't aiming at the head/neck but staring at the whole bird. Wasn't gun/choke/shell performance but my own. Watch your form cheek to the stock eye down the barrel and let it fly we'll see more birds on the ground.
Almost the same as rick-iles except I use an 11-87. I like the 3 inch #5 loads as they gave the best pattern and my "kill zone" is around the 25 to 30 yard mark. I have totally missed birds because they were too close and even knocked one out once with the wad.
All jokes aside we have all missed at some point of our hunting lives. Most of the time we want to blame the gun or combo but at the end of the day it’s form. We don’t realize that the bird comes from any direction and sometimes the way we have to bend or move is uncomfortable and form is off like cheek not on the stock fully
Shooting my older Winchester with full choke and the 3" Winchester long beard #4 shells, pattern is good to 30 yards , 40 yards there's pellets in kill zone but not what I would like for a sure shot. After reading about those carlson chokes I think I will be investing in one in the future for those longer pokes.
I have a Beretta 400 Xtreme Plus. I've been using just the full choke with Winchester XL Longbeards, works/patterns well. This year I'm sticking with the full choke but I bought into the Federal 3rd Degree TSS program, it patterns well at 40 yds. Couldn't find any XL #6's.
What ever you work with, pattern your gun first.
