SmartOut 2.0 - iOS and Android app for Ontario outdoorsmen.

Hello!

Wanted to introduce myself as the person who has officially taken over the development and maintenance of Smartout Ontario android app. Shout out to the P4RP for creating the original android app and maintaining it for many years.

So what’s new?

• Most importantly, the hunting and fishing seasons for Ontario are now updated with 2024 data.
• We have created a new design to update the look and feel of the experience
• We had to build the new app from scratch, but the efforts are worth it since now the app is available for iOS and Android.
• Added Ontario hunter reporting data (for moose, deer, bear, turkey and wolfs) as a new screen to give a visual representation of the harvest rates.
• Added moose allocation results from previous year to the specific WMU’s hunting season screen. I find this helpful for those of us who don’t hunt in the same WMU all the time.
• Added antlerless deer draw results from previous year to the specific WMU’s deer hunting season screen.
• Added controlled deer draw results from previous year to the specific WMU with controlled deer hunting season.

I hope that everyone finds the new app just as useful as the previous one. I have used the original app since 2017, and I am super excited to keep it going and add some new features along the way.


What’s next?

• Currently finishing up the coding and starting testing of the new functionality for listing outfitters in Ontario within the app. More details to come soon.
• Working on expanding into other Canadian provinces. I have already created designs and gathered the data for Quebec hunting seasons, so that will also come soon. I got inspired to do it while planning the Quebec moose trip for next year 😊
• More (hunter community focused) features are planned but not ready to disclose those yet... stay tuned!

It’s a great app. What about adding a Sunday hunting map.

That's also on the way. There are two updates currently being worked on, one of them is to add the Sunday Gun Hunting and .275 Calibre map layers back.

Fishing 2025 Update Alert!

I'm thrilled to announce the latest update to our app, packed with new features and improvements to enhance your experience! 🌟

In our last update, we focused on re-creating the app using new technology and laying the foundation for future releases. This time, we're adding some fantastic new features into the mix!

🔄 What's New:

Updated Fishing 2025 Season Database: Once the hunting rules for 2025 come out, there will be another update.
Redesigned Fishing Opportunities and Exceptions: The additional opportunities tab for each FMZ has a fresh design. Click the “locate on map” button to view relevant information without distractions. Try it, you’ll love it!
Improved Exceptions Tab: The exceptions screen has been revamped to list all rule book exceptions with an option to highlight individual exceptions on the map.
Google Maps Returns: Based on your feedback, we've brought back Google Maps with Street, Satellite, and Terrain views.
Map Enhancements: Quickly view additional opportunities, waterbody exceptions, fish sanctuaries, and other exceptions on the map with precise GPS coordinates.
Sunday Gun Hunting and .275 Calibre Overlays: Add these overlays to your hunting map for better planning.
Show Ontario Outfitters: Easily find fishing guides or hunting outfitters near you. I created a form inside the app where users can submit outfitters to be listed on the map. This is the first iteration of this feature. I want to see if there is any interest in it before I develop it further.
Remember My View: The map will remember your state (which layers you had open) and bring you back there next time. A “clear overlays” button makes resetting easier.
Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements: We've resolved various issues and removed unnecessary code for a smoother experience.
