Does anyone know if federal has discontinued the trophy copper sabot slugs?
From all the adds from resellers they are 20% off because they are discontinued. Is that true?
I shoot 20 ga 2 3/4" and got good results with them using a savage 220

When I had a 220 (now sold) it also liked the Remington AccuTip's, either 2 3/4" or 3". While I never tried them in my 220, my 12G Auto 5 with a Hastings rifled barrel likes the Federal blue box sabots, either of those may be an option for you.
I searched for a while trying to locate a store that had federal 20 Guage Trophy copper tip sabots for my 220. Found them at Canadian Tire, Durham Centre off Kingston rd. Bought the last 8 boxes they had. There is a new sabot from Federal which I believe is replacing the trophy copper. Federal Freight Train Copper Slug in 12 and 20 Gauge in 3 inch. Gagnons has the 20 gauge in stock if anyone is interested.
it looks like they've discontinued them but are producing a new product they call "Freight Train"

Quite simple-if there is a wind of change, why wait?
If you intend on hunting, have a"yearly usage"amount-and can estimate how many years you intend to hunt-buy THAT amount.
If serious about THAT ammo.
Reasons:PRO
They will discontinue MOST good stuff sooner or later.(do not ask me why...but that is the sad track record of many)
Ammo prices will never go down-just go up over time.
No more worries aboiut running dry.
Avoid additional cost $$$$ trying out MANY new stuff, before finding a NEW substitute to your liking.
Reasons:CON
Upfront $....but that is that, the cost will be there in 5 or 10 years too....(if lucky and THAT ammo is still around)
True! Just look at Partition Golds.
On another note I work in a retail store and you wouldn't believe the number of people who come in on the Saturday before the season looking for a particular slug and then being deeply disappointed that we don't have it. We even had one guy who actually said "this happens every year"! TC
