I recently picked up a used single shot .22 rifle. It’s a Winchester model 55 single shot automatic. It’s a unique rifle in that it’s an open bolt so that, once fired, it automatically ejects the spent brass. They were made from 1958 to 1961 and only about 47,000 were made. It’s a perfect little gun for northern ruffed grouse as they normally don’t flush and don’t wander far if you miss your first shot. In fact I shot my first bird with it Monday evening.
