I have one ,but in 20 gage.
I have not used for deer(have a Savage 220F)but set it up for it.
As a backup.
I can shoot 1.5" group at 50 y, with Vortex Venom 6 MOA red dot,and improved cylinder ,shooting Rotweill Exact Magnum 3"slugs.
I could fumble more , to improve accuracy(Red dot size covers my Bullseye-so i can be "floating a bit")but had no time.
I would take a 75 y shot without hesitation .
Not a 12 gage though.
(12 g will bite a bit with a slug)
Side note-everyone and their brother swears by Imp Cyl.for slug accuracy for smooth bore shotgun.
Hope this helps.
GBK where did you buy the improved cylinder choke for the stevens. Thank's Ken
Bass Pro Shop had them(at least for 20 gage;)).
They are Cabela's own ,good for"any shot"(steel,lead ,HEVI )
Stainless steel,with a choke wrench.Made in the USA too..
They are not overly expensive either(like 30 $ or so)
They go by- Fits most : Winchester-Browning invector-Mossberg model 500 and Weatherby shotguns
Yellow hard plastic flat case, with lumps and bums protruding for the choke and the wrench.
Thank's GBK i will check bass pro out for one. Ken
I ordered a Stevens 301 Turkey in 20guage last year in January from my local gun shop in Windsor. They were unable to source one 6 months later. I got my deposit back. Will try again in 2025. lol
I started my son off with a 20 gauge , its been extremely reliable in all weather . Slugs kick like a mule !! but good groups out to 50 yards
I'd buy one again
