Well that is interesting. Having hunted with hounds for 20 + years in the 60's I can believe how the rules now are enforced. Is it possible to have a hunting hound that isn't " running at large?" Thanks for the article Meghan.
The charge laid does not appear to be appropriate considering he was hunting coyote in an open season.
Anyone here who has access to and can share the case reference?
I was under the impression that the dog wasn’t running at large because he had a gps collar on him and the owner of the dog knew where the dog was and was following by automobile. As per the judge. And yes gilroy I believe there is no closed season on coyotes.
The key to the entire issue was that the JP noted the hunter not only had GPS units on his dogs,but,that he also had recall ability. Had he not been able to prove that fact and had to enter private property to retrieve his dogs, the JP's ruling may have been completely different.
