Hi Everyone,
I'm looking at heading up to onaping lake. Does anyone have any experience on this lake? The lodge is cheap, and I've heard the fishing is great.

Bring a spare foot!
It's a huge lake and I'm sure lots of people fish it.. Problem is, I never hear anyone say much!! I'd love to fish it this summer, being that I'm less than 2 hours away.
Many years ago my wife and I were loaned a small sail boat (about 18') on the lake. We spent a couple of days in the north section just loafing and fishing.
Very isolated, great bass fishing but we had no chart and the kicker seldom started when needed (tricky getting thru the narrows) so we spent a lot of our time in the north end either anchored or beached.;)
That was in the 70's, might have less privacy now.
I went to the lodge you speak of two summers ago. The place was a filthy mess, we left after seeing the place. We drove a total of 10 hours for nothing! It smelled very bad, the bed sheets were dirty, the fridge smelled like spoiled milk, there were dirty dishes in the kitchen sink, and the kitchen was a mess. When we told them they said you can clean it because we are busy. When we talked to the lady on the phone she made it sound like the place was new, neat, and tidy. Well it wasn't! The boat launch there is terrible, it's gravel and was completely washed out. I talked to a couple of friends that fished there and they said the fishing was ok, but certainly not as good as the lodge owners claimed. I would choose another lodge and a different lake. Don't waste you hard earned money at this place.
Was on that lake 5 years ago great sm bass fishing
Hi,
I just searched Onaping Lake Lodge and found 2 lodges, so you're going to need to specify which lodge you plan on staying with. Then Fishing411 will need to comment and let us know which lodge he stayed in,
I've heard great things about the fishing in Onaping, I'm only an hour and a bit away, but I have never tried it.
Many have said a GPS is required to keep you from getting lost in a bay.
Much of the shorelines are untouched and every bay looks the same as the last one.
Let us know more.
i have fished onaping for the last 8 years.the pickerel fishing is stellar in the lake, but better from the 30 mile marker to the end of the lake.lots of pike and bass too.we usually camp, but have stayed at the 40 mile outpost,it was rustic, but still was ok,i didnt like to carry our gear up that steep hill,it was not fun.we usually stay at campsites.we are staying at the 25 mile area this year on an island campsite.its so nice, secluded nad has a kitchenette built right at the site as well as a toilet.i have caught a hundred pics a day in onaping, the pickerel fishing is amazing.dont expect lunkers, but if you know what you are doing there is a good chance of catching 50+ a day.i love onaping!
it could be very easy to get lost on onaping,it has over 2500 miles of shoreline.i would suggest a topo map and a gps for nav. for sure!
I'm looking at Onaping Lake Lodge - far south end of the lake. I would be willing to consider camping as well - are there maps with defined camp spots, or can I set up camp in areas that look good? I have hand held GPS, so I should be good to go.

Has anyone camped in Halfway provincial park? If so, how's the area for boat launches? Would you still reccomend launching in onaping?
