LOST English setter

Took Cody out to the Beverly swamp for some bush work . As my Uncle and I pulled into the parking lot He noticed a dog hiding under a pine tree.

We got out and called it over . It moved towards us but seemed strange in its movements.It finally got to me and crawled right up onto my lap.I gave it the once over and found it was a young female. Her front pads where tore up bad and she was extremely under weight (her hip bones are sticking out).Other then that she looked OK.

I tied her to the truck and we took Cody out. We where back aways and I could hear some panting.Turned around and there she was limping towards me.She had slipped her collar.


I had left her with a girl in the parking lot who was security for the Hamilton conservation authority.I got home and the wife insisted I bring her home , so I went back and got her from the girl and left my info with her.

The dog had no collar , no tattoo , haven't checked for a chip ,but someone had left a juice jug cut into a water dish and some buns for food.

She is a tri colour English setter .Less then a year old.

Just thought I would post on here incase someone Knows of a missing one.

Might want to bring her to a vet's office and see if she is microchipped or look for a tattoo.

Or contact your local humane society and those in the immediate area. If you post a picture I will forward it to Oakville & Milton HS and Hamilton/Burlington SPCA.

Still, an awfull nice thing for you to do. Wish there were more like you.

I wonder how many saw her without doing anything. Good for you. If you never find an owner they say that a rescued dog will make the best pet ever since they remember you helped them. I once found a dirty, hungry scared dog outside Banff. I put her into my car and took her to the local dog catcher. It turned out the dog catcher had gone skiing the week earlier and lost her dog. She was heartbroken about it but this turned out to be her dog. Very touching to see the reunion.

I think the Great Power arranged for you to adopt her. We have kept several lost and thrown away dogs and have never experienced more loyalty and appreciation, including my wonderful Dalmation, Sparky. If you can give her a home you enjoy her.

So do I. My lost dog followed the baker home from the Tim Horton's every morning at 5 am., obviously asking for help. He didn't even check the ID and phone me. It still makes me angry.

Hi Joe,

Were you able to locate this dogs owner. If not, I would definately be interested in knowing more about her. We had to put our English Setter to sleep on July 1st (such a sad time). We have been looking for an English Setter since (we have rescued 2 English Setters before) and there doesn't seem to be any available, other than going to the U.S. I would rather rescue than go to a breeder as I do not use the dogs for hunting, they become an active family member. Please let me know if you have taken her to a shelter so I can follow up. Pauline

It's been two years I think she probably found a home.
