I picked up some Winchester super x rifled slugs to get a rough sight in on my 220f before using up some of more expensive ammo (Federal Premium trophy, and Accutips).
Problem is - the Winchester website says the super x can shoot through rifled or smooth barrels but the box says smooth bore and makes no mention of rifled barrel.
Has anybody had any experience shooting the Winchester super X out of a rifled shot gun?
I believe you'll be fine. Likely find that your barrel will have more fouling and you'll have to clean it well. B525
The 220 shoots so good its easy to sight in without wasting ammo. Just use the recommended accutips and forget about who knows how it will shoot rifled slugs.

Well, here is an update. I went to the range and fired off 10rds of the cheap Winchester super x rifled slugs through my 220 to get a sight-in, then followed up by 5rds of Federal premium trophy copper. At 50yrds the groupings were slightly better with the Federal by about 1 inch not counting one flyer of the rifled slug (read user error), but the riflled slugs dropped about 2 inches and put a much bigger hole through the paper.
The biggest factor in accuracy seemed to be the barrel heating up, by letting the barrel cool I obtained the most accurate results regardless of slug type.
I will do some more practicing at a longer distance when my schedule allows but would like to know what the cheapest ammo to use is for target practicing with a rifled barrel.
You should try the ammo that Savage recommends, Remington 2-3/4" accutips, Remington 3" accutips and Federal tipped barnes expander. Try all three, even more types, to compare performance because rifled barrel accuracy can vary with different types of sabots, the cheapest may not perform the best and be a waste of time and money. The past few years both Remington and Federal have been offering $5 a box rebate on these sabots, makes for a good deal compared to others. Shop around for availability and price. It took the buddy five shots to sight in after bore sighting looking down the inside of the barrel. One shot at fifty and really only needed three at 100. The 100 yard first two shots were touching and POI adjusted for the next two shot group, that's all it took. You should probably practice with what you're going to hunt with.

Yes, absolutely I will when it comes to a final dial in of the scope I will use the round I amd hunting with. I did not explain that I am a mentor hunter this year and have 15yr old who needs practice with a shotty so I am just looking for some cheap ammo reccomendations to through lead down the range.
I checked both the Remington and Federal websites but they were not much help in researching my 'practice' ammo requirement.
