quebec moose hunt

decided to go to quebec last year to moose hunt. Got a camp from a guy in temiskaming who promised moose and exclusive area. Well.. there was a moose shot by the next camp over [ 1ST ONE IN 10 YEARS} there was a camp evry 2 square kilmeters. the camp was shall we say ..less then par.. they people in the area where friendly, the other hunters where decent guys ,no trouble that way. Has any one been to quebec where there is no or at least limited leased camps? Im looking for an area that I can get off the beaten path and have a decent hunt. was looking just north of val'dor. any help at all would be great. thanks.

We did a fly in with Cargair two years ago. Can't speak highly enough of their outfit and very reasonable compared to Ontario. They drop you off at a fully equipped outpost cabin and an exclusive territory which typically encompasses a few different lakes. I shot my first Bull on this trip so was very happy. We also saw a couple cows and one calf along with a ton of sign. They only allot cow tags every other year from what I remember. The only draw back is that they don't have a fall bear season in Quebec, only spring.

I've got a camp 1.5 hrs NE of Temiscaming. Pretty good area for moose, but you're going to want to definitely be up further than where you were. Val D'Or is a good jump off point.

If you're going to look that far though, the moose are just as plentiful over on the ON side North of New Liskeard, and you're not paying $350 for an out of province tag.

Ive been over this problem inside and out.. I agree about the mooose in ontario in fact I own a camp north of lake temagami, . But you cant get a tag. I need 16 guys for a cow tag.. I dont know 16 guys Id want to hunt with. We are all set up for a bush camp with a outfitter tent etc.. In quebec you dont have to wait till the end of aug to know if you got drawn, I can go boww hunting for a week and go back rifle hunting if I choose. I would love to hunt in ontario believe me. But in my opinion quebec is the system to with if you want to hunt moose.. I just need to know what area is going to give me a chance to see alittle bit of brown and not so much orange.

I have family in QC who have a camp. I have an open invite to join them for the hunt. I just have a huge problem with laying out that kind of dough to maybe get in on a moose. I have even contemplated going as the camp cook, so I can get a share, and doing some grouse hunting, but the small game license for non-res is $90. Pretty darn expensive if you only get a few birds.

I still pay my $65 for my fishing license, since the walleye and trout fishery up there is 10x better than in ON. but I don't think I'll be getting my hunting license again. I just bought a nice little bush parcel in Halliburton near crown land...that will be where I hang my hat come hunting season.

I would have no problem paying $350 to have a tag in my pocket every year. I have payed a lot more than that to maybe see a moose...;)

Quebec. I booked a hunt one time in Quebec. Found out before the season that the outfitter lied about several things, and was able to get out of it with no expense.

Some friends went to Quebec last fall, also very disappointed with the mis-representation of the hunt and the cabin and will not go back.

I'm sure there are honest people offering cabins and hunts, but it takes a lot of wading through the lies and BS to find them.

i hear that.. im not relying on any camps anymore im go to do it myself .. but would like a starting point to get in the general area of less hunters. any thoughts

The real trouble is that QC doesn't have a Crown Land use atlas like ON does.

Pick a ZEC to hunt in from one - the ZEC maps are published online. Get in touch with the ZEC mgt and they will help you out.
