Anyone here use/used a sit on top type kayak for duck hunting? What are your thoughts? I've owned sea kayaks in the past but never hunted out of them. I like the idea not having my legs constricted so I'm thinking of going the sit on top route. Thanks
Look at a nucanoe frontier 12. Not cheap, but versatile!
That or the Hobie Pro Angler.
afaik, the two most stable yaks. A friend bought a nucanoe this year and I have a pro angler. I wouldn't hesitate to hunt out of my pa, and his nucanoe is just as impressive, lacking only the same amount of room for stuff on board.
I hunt from a 13.5 foot Swift kayak ... it is a cockpit type, not a sit on top. The cockpit has an oversized opening and a good seat. There are two good sized, water tight hatches so I can carry over a dozen full-size decs, extra clothing, food etc. I often head into the marsh well before sun rise and don't come out until after sun set. IMO a sit-on-top is not comfortable for an all day hunt, plus It wouldn't carry the gear I like to have with me.
I'll be water hunting from my wilderness systems ride 135 in camo. I use it for fishing so I bought 2 ghilles blankets to cover me up from the top, seems like it'll be perfect. Nothing fancy but it should do the job quite nicely
