Deer are running all over the lake looking for food up in Parry Sound. Greater numbers than years past.
Other than cutting browse and trimming high cedar branches, what else can we provide the deer with ?
We offer sparing feedings of corn and oat mix.
Any other suggestions?
Acorn would be ideal. Feeding deer corn is like giving candy to a kid, they will be high strung for a short while.
I'm feeding our deer oats and barley and a bit of cracked corn. Cedar is probably the best as it is natural. The deer around here hit the cedars 1st and then come into our back yard for "treats".
Corn is not the best thing to feed deer in the winter. It's hard for them to digest the corn this time or year
Oats, barley cracked corn some feed mills call it COB alsosecond cut alfalfa but if you start to feed make sure you feed the rest of thewinter. Also like you said cut some browse cedar as such. They have beencleaning up the browse so I cut the whole tree down for them last weekend.
I have been feeding since October and will keep feedinguntil the deer leave for their summer range. But remember once you start tofeed it could get expensive I have already spent close to 1000 already so ifyou can’t feed the rest of the year don’t start.
Good to see other people helping them out because thegovernment doesn’t care about them anymore.

I hear the comments about pure corn- we don't do that.
Ministry sites explain all about the digestion issues of pure, and being cautious to not stimulate the animals metabolism and then stop feeding.
This year, on a 430 sled ride, we daily see 70-80 deer along the shores of the 3 mile lake.
They must be having it tough winter.
Never seen those kinds of numbers before.
