Toronto NAVHDA chapter
I've seen there is a Toronto chapter of NAVHDA. Is it very active, and how benificial is it if one has a new young pointer, even though you do not plan on entering competitions?
PM me if your response may be to 'political' if you wish, I will be discreet.

I just became a member this year as I plan to test my GSP in NA (natural ability) this May. Benefits of being a member include lower testing costs and free advise/training help. They meet up once in a while for training days, anything from basic obedience to live bird contact, depending on interest. Really friendly group of people from what I can tell so far and all on the same page in regards to training methods.
Do you have an english pointer?

In my understanding the Toronto chapter had some internal issues in the past but the current chapter executive is making great efforts to revitalize their chapter. I am not too sure how their chapter operates but our chapter (Ottawa Valley) holds a group training day once a month and many chapter members train in smaller local groups on a weekly basis.
You should look at joining the chapter in terms of a networking opportunity with other dog trainers in your area who may have more to offer you in terms of experience, access to land and access to birds.
Our chapter has nearly 60 members but on a given year maybe only 10 enter tests.
FYI - Their Facebook account seems to be more up to date than their website. https://www.facebook.com/pages/NAVHD...9619?ref=br_tf

There is also the Ontario Grand River Chapter close to you.

Thanks, all good information and insight! I'll check out both chapters.
