A positive relief for law abiding gun owners.

I would have preferred a two month amnesty.......but I guess it is an indicator that they will need a little time to ensure no holes when the introduce a permanent fix.
Patience....
An amnesty is just a snooze button on your alarm clock. Don't thank them until they've actually addressed the problem.
The second of the two. A quick resolution was/is wishful thinking but I should know better when it comes to government doing anything. I'm also guessing the more that the lawyers look at fixes, the more complex they realize a solution is.
I would like to see the details of the amnesty. IMO, what's in it MAY demonstrate how intricate this problem is and how far they've thought it through, i.e. Can the banned firearms still be sold? Can they be taken to the range? Can they be used for hunting during the amnesty period? The most important question, what is their current classification?
As for a permanent fix, the first problem is the SA and CZ reclassifications. The only acceptable solution is that they remain non-restricted. The second problem is that the law permitted retroactive bans. The 'once a machine gun, always a machine gun' and the definition of variant need to be dealt with. In order to accomplish this, the Minister has to change or amend the CCC.
Just how much political capital the CPC is willing to risk to resolve this and some of the other issues in the Firearms Act is anyones guess. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Bill.
^^^^^ That's what I was hoping for. Too many think I don't have them, no interest in them, so it doesn't matter. Thanks
I just saw the conditions on the amnesty - not impressed with this interim solution at all. Their current classification is prohibited. They can only be sold/transported to a business or transported to the Police. Dust collectors for the time being.
Like I said above, I know a permanent fix is in the works and this amnesty only highlights the difficulty of crafting the final law. Patience......
An amnesty is just that: "we won't prosecute you." Like I said, it's just like hitting the snooze bar on the alarm clock. It only delays things.
