I took my turkey course 6 years ago, now my wife is getting into the sport so I got her the DVD, wow other than the 8 hours in a classroom it was way better.
However it is nice to be able to bone up on the regs and laws before the seasons, something like this for all species would be nice, I for one always read the regs but trying to understand the regs and their ambiguity is not always easy. And a good money maker.
Not very cost effective to provide a DVD that includes all game, regulations etc... As it has to be updated every year. Which is why they really scaled back on just the paper regs, as it is all available online.
Perhaps an online / interactive version would be nice, not sure how nessecary though.
Also that DVD is created / sold by the OFAH and all funds go to them, versus the province for everything else.
I understand the cost effectiveness of it, and I agree, but it is REALLY dumbed down in that DVD, and is narrated to you, or just dumb down the paper regs, I'm not a lawyer, I'm a millwright with a college education, the wordiness of it always leaves room for misunderstanding.
How many posts are on here a year asking if I can carry a gun here, there, and everywhere obviously the paper copy is failing too. Hell I would pay $5 a year for something that wasn't subjective to misunderstanding!
i think everyone with a hunting license should get sent a reg book to them. if someone was not lucky enough to get a copy and doesn't own a computer then what, is he or she been negligent if they make a mistake. I would pay a couple of bucks to have a copy with me at all times just incase and for reference.
I agree with "tom gobble". My father is 82 and doesn't even know where the "ON" button is on a computer. Every year I print a copy of the regs pertaining to the species and zones we hunt in.
In regards to a DVD, maybe a version more geared towards the safety aspect for each species?
I have a copy of the 1998 regs and when I look at it, man is there a lot of changes, especially deer and turkeys!
