a few days in the forest
time in the forest.
the initial idea was to get into the same back country walleye lake
i was in last yr, but my aging 2wd vehicle with 260,000kms wasnt up to challenge
and to be honest i wasnt up for the 60k walk.:silly: especially with this winter.
so it was back into the rugged mixed forests of the trout lands.
this yr would see me in the bush for 21d solo.
to some purists it might not be considered a true solo
in that i did meet other folks some days while there.
bite was super slow, but i still managed a few incredibly tasty
eaters.most of all tho, it was just so awesome to be completely immersed in a real
Canadian Winter!
drinking water from the lakes, harvesting and burning wood,
starry nites,snowstorms and sunrises.
and snowstorm it did! got caught out when that two day Texas low
rolled through. +3 rain then into ice pellets/snow then chill again. with gusts of
70-80k the trees were blowing like crazy. even had to use earplugs to be able to
sleep. was certain there would be a few trees come crashing down upon my head. thank the Lord
that didnt happen. highlight for sure was in
meeting up with some ole friends and making some new ones.
iam eternally grateful to incredible generosity of my northern friends!.
caught a gnarly one second last day
with last minnow. had a set-line rigged up with a small egb spoon and
single hook. rested the rod on my milk crate. bout 20 minutes later the bell goes off
and line was peeling off spool. quick pic and released.
have a great season guys.
see yall nxt yr

Awesome to see that there are still guys, gals still out there enjoying the winter months. Love the pics and the entire camp set up complete with stove and all. These old bones don't like that -30 temp reading on the thermometer though. Truly being in touch with nature for sure...
