Bear hunt
Is it possible to call black bears. Do you call them similar to how you would a coyote? This is what I've heard but the two animals have a completely different diet, doesn't quite makes sense to me.
Or use a bait bucket and sit quiet and wait? What is your approach to spring and fall bear hunt?

I've heard of people using a predator call when bear hunting, never have / seen it myself.

My experience is very limited, however the last two years during the moose hunt. We are convinced that they come to investigate the moose calls. Curiosity ???? We hunt in a WMU 17, no vehicle access. I had two come in, got one.

I have a couple of pals that have had bruins show up when summer hunting Coyotes that caused some major consternation for an hour or so. The only thing that discouraged the bears was a couple of strategically placed near-miss shots. It seems they don't like dirt kicking up,loud noises and branches falling on their heads. I should add that the guys weren't sure whether it was the calls that brought them in or just human scent and ordinary curiosity.

Wayne Carlton has-had a great video on calling in bears with mouth calls, mimicking animals in distress.
Be careful though(he AND the common sense says)because YOU will be in the spot the bear is expecting his/her meal-and he may like you as a replacement.

you tube has some good videos of calling bears.

Bear cub in distress is a very good call. The big males will take every chance they can get to remove future rivials, orr get a easy meal.
The females will come in because they are wired to protect their cub, even if they don't have one at the time.
