BOBCAYGEON- Anybody know the bylaw for discharge of firearms.

hey, so I am headed up there for a few days and wanted to bring my air gun for some practice, which is 1200fps so it is classified as a firearm in all regards. I cant seem to understand the legal and technical lingo in the kawartha lake bylaw document. so I am wondering if anybody who knows the area or who lives there can get this cleared up for me. the house i am staying at has a big enough backyard to shoot safely. any help here would be a god send. from what i understand, target practice is fine, but it has to comply with the zoning laws or whatever. but it doesnt say what they are. to be honest lol, im probably just going to do it anyway. theres nothing but trees behind the house. so if you dont know the answer off the top of your head, dun worry.

Exactly how big is "big enough to shoot safely"? Are there any other homes around you? If you were seen,would someone call the Police? These are things you need to consider with a 1200fps air gun. Really,you need to think this through,carefully. The potential for things to "go south" is very high,by-laws or no by-laws.

If you have already looked up the discharge by law for the City of Kawartha Lakes, and you don't understand it, you might want to give them a call.

You may as well be shooting a rifle in town, because its the same offence with that air gun.

Just sayin.....

Most bylaws mention firearms....air guns and bows are usually included. Best make a call and find out for sure.

Anything is considered a firearm under certain situations, you really do not want to find out what they consider that situation, ask the local authorities. Most municipalities have zones or distances that you cannot shoot in.

Here in Bancroft we can only shoot in 1/2 the town, the other half is no discharge. When travelling the roadways it is easy to tell, but if you are in the bush the dividing line is not well marked.....
Are you right in town or out on highway 36 or 8...?
