hey guys i have been having problems with my 1987 70HP jonson and found out today that it has a blown piston and will cost over 1000 to fix. so i am putting it away for the season but i am wondering if it has any realistic value to sell for parts so i can put the money toward a new motor
PS also looking for a motor in the 40-70HP range

better work on your math before you make a joke..lol.. i realize i wouldnt get much but wasnt sure if it could be worth something for parts

Lower unit, prop might be needed by someone ....
You can pull it off and store it in a corner easier than the whole motor. Try Kijiji to see if someone wants it.
Pat is right, someone will smack their lower end on a rock or shoal and need it, place that "parting out" ad on kijiji in the stoney lake area and wait for the phone to ring....i've parted out things and have done almost as good as selling the whole thing in good condition, elec components can be worth a lot, the problem is the money comes in slow and it takes up room.

go the Kijiji route and part it out if you can take it apart and want to put in the effort, another option would be to take it to a Johnson dealer they might give you a couple hundred bucks off a replacement motor or maybe you can swing a deal and get them to rig your new motor for free if you let them keep the old one for parts.
I'd be interested in buying it if it was closer.
