Another first time Goose hunt
Last year I introduced my buddy Kris to Duck hunting and we had a great time. This year he was able to take a day off from work to try his luck at Goose hunting for the first time. He arrived at my place and we walked over to the pond and got set. Shortly after legal shooting time there were lots of small flocks of Geese around but nothing was coming into the pond. We called in a number of flocks but they wouldn't commit.
Then we had 2 flocks that started calling and circling the pond. Some of the individuals would set their wings and then would pull back when the others didn't follow. Finally one lone Goose came in and started to land. As this was Kris's first Goose, I decided that Kris should go ahead and shoot this one as it was coming in to land. I told him to go and he made a perfect shot. One happy hunter!
Over the next hour we had several more flocks come by to check out the pond, but they just kept going. Then this lone Goose starts cupping it's wings while it is still about 300 yards away. The Goose came down and then circled behind us and came in to land on the pond. Kris made another great shot and his second Goose was down. This evening we are going to get out again. This time I may even do some shooting!
Here is a picture of Kris with his 2 birds.
