Stay Off My Stands

Just a complaint or . I hunt a property with a couple other guys. I have multiple stands set up and cameras. I set up mineral stations and supplemental feed in the winter. The other guys ( who ive never met) do NOTHING! There is one home made hang in with sticks thats it. Now my / question is, should I be pissed that someone else has sat my stands? I leave certain areas alone until later in October so theyre fresh. And yet last year I get to a stand n see fresh boot tracks and mud all over my ladderstand. Plus a broken bow hanger. What would possess someone to sit another guys stand (thats not a friend with permission) I even have pics of a guy trying to sneak by one of my trail cameras. Sorry, just had to .

You don't mention whether it's posted private property or public land. If it's private and you have permission,I'd be PO'd. If it's public property....oh,well.

Sorry, private property. The other 2 guys have permission to hunt but why sit my stands? ???

I know how you feel. I've gone to a stand (on my property) in the afternoon and have found where a guy sat in the morning and had thrown candy bar wrappers all around. Maddening!

Guys sit in other guys stands because they're too lazy to do the work for themselves.

You guys should definitely try to work it out between yourselves. Explain to these guys why you are leaving the area alone. Whatever you do, don't involve the landowner in this kind of dispute or quite possibly you'll all lose access to the property. They don't want or need that kind of headache.

It sounds selfish, I'll probably get flamed, but this is exactly the reason why I ask landowners on the properties I have permission on to only allow access to me and my friends/family. One guy or small group = less problems. They don't need the trouble and it could end up with no access for anyone. Different guys or groups with different hunting styles hunting one 100 acre piece of property just does not make for a good scenario. I've seen it happen first hand.

Maybe leave a note on your stand and ask them to contact you so you can come to an agreement. Example - you guys stick to this (x) acres, we'll stick to this (x) acres. Good luck, hope you get it worked out.

Because they are good spots and you are not there. Talk to them and tell them not to sit in your stands or hunt them instead because they will. Not much you can do unless you tell them. Good spots need to be protected.

Sounds like your forced to share the property with a bunch of weekend wannabe's, not serious hunters. A 'real' hunter knows it's not right to mess with another guys set-up without permission.

The reality is, there isn't much you can do but to see if you can work it out with them.

GW11 is right, it's better to get exclusive privileges on the land you hunt to avoid this kind of hassle, but if that's not possible, your unfortunately at the mercy of these guys morals/ethics.

I think if someone invented a device to prevent someone from climbing the stand while your not there they,d make a killing. Are your cameras in tamper proof boxes? If so you could point them right at your stands in a place that they are easily seen. people might think twice if they know they are on camera.I,ll never understand why people have to be such dicks!!

That kind of sucks, but if you both have permission they ain't going away.... I would leave a note having them contact you. Maybe after hearing your voice, or putting a face to the treestand they may view it a little differently...but definitely leave a note

I would talk to the owner of the property and let them know what is going on. You might want to arrange a meeting between all of the people that have permission to hunt the property to try to work this out. If you still have problems after that, find somewhere else to hunt where you won't have all these hassles. Good luck.
