snow shoe

I have a low tech hunt in deep snow on my wish list for some time. So I’ve thought of going some snowshoe hunting for snow shoe hare between January and March. Currently, thinking of somewhere around French River (remote enough and not too bad of a drive), but open to suggestions. Wouldn’t even mind hauling the gear for an two day trip through the bush as long as one is far enough away from snowmobile trails, highways and cottages.
Any pointers on where to go (incl. where to park the car) would be appreciated.

Not sure about snowshoes, but deffinently varying hare.

check out hwy 522 between hwy 69 and portloring... just south of the french river... bin a few years, but i used to get lots of snowshoes (yes varying hare) in there... check out the spruce swamps, and you will be sure to find them. used to be a member on hear call mur the bear... he hunted around britt with beagles... havent seen him around for a while, he might be worth looking up though

thanks! did some canoeing up there, but never hunted along 522.
do you mean the swamps east the power line? there are just too many ;-)
hope the same holds true for the hare...

any frozen swampy area with low to ground spruce trees near it... dont watch for a rabbit, watch for that black dot (there eyes)
