#4 imperial old shells
I was given some #4s imperial 12 guage 2.3/4s , they been properly stored for years in my uncles gun safe , he recently gave them to me, what would these be good for? He said they used to use this size shell for jack rabbit back in the 80s. Some feedback would be awsome.

You can use them for anything except migratory birds and doves. I had some, and my daughter used them for turkeys, since the kick is a lot lighter than my usual 3.5 inch turkey loads. Before the advent of 3 inch plus shells, we used 4's for jacks, fox and coyotes, at close range of course.

If I had a dollar for every jack I shot with those shells, well you know where I'm going with this...lol. If you have a use for them go for it, they are a great shell, if not I'll take them off your hands.

They were my favourite for jumping ducks or jacks. Too heavy for smaller bunnies or grouse, but the odd one went out the left hand barrel after a distant ring neck. Even once they switched to plastic hulls they were still popular, in fact many hardware and small grocery stores only sold CIL.

Just had 4 boxes of the EXACT same load given to us a couple of weeks ago from a buddy that brings a "gift" from his stockpile every time he hunts on the farm. The brass was showing a little oxidation on a few and one of them wouldn't eject from my sons Ranger after being fired....quick breakdown and out it came.

i guess they would make a great pheasant load since the majority of the ones ive seen flew up a distance infront of me. should be good out of my modified barrel, il have to wait until next season though. Pheasant already closed in my wmu 88

My dad used to have the habit of going into Dept. stores when they were closing, and clearing them out of any hunting gear / ammo that they were selling. ( Simpsons, Eatons, etc.) so I now have a pretty good stockpile of older imperial, CIL, and Canuck 2 3/4" shotshells, most being #4 or #5. They're a great general purpose shell.
