Auction Goodies

Hit an estate auction yesterday morn, had a few good laughs and ate carrot cake for breakfast..LOL... and found a few treasures for my ML hobby :)

Picked up a Lee Melting Pot, 5lbs of lead and 3 lbs of #4 shot for $25 ;

It took me a minute to identify the FFFg Black Powder...I didn't recognize the label, I've only ever seen the Red/Black tins of Goex. The one Can is full, never been opened and the other is 1/2 full...great deal at $5.

The date stamps on the bottom says they're from 1977....

They even threw in a box (almost full) of wad cups.....I use these in my 12 gauge ML barrel. They hold about 1 1/4 oz of shot. I find they give me a better pattern at 25 yds than just pouring the shot in over the powder wad.

nice find .just never know .now burns some powder and make smoke Dutch

..not to mention making my own .45 balls now...LOL...

Glad to hear you did well at an estate sale.
Sometimes you can find good values at a reasonable cost or discount.
Because my muzzle loading is so specialized shot-shell components are about the only useful items for me. #4 shot would be definitely welcomed for my favorite pheasant load.
Just have to find a good location again for pheasant’s not so far away, chuckle.

Not to hijack the thread, but ET1, are there any pheasants left in your area? I used to live on Western Hill in St. Catharines in the late sixties and early seventies, and there were LOTS of pheasants in the 12-Mile Creek valley. We would start hiking around Kinsey Street and go out to Jackson's Flats or the Scout Camp and kick up lots. People tell me they are mostly gone now. Of course, you couldn't SHOOT them down there, but at least there were birds. And about eight jillion raccoons, too, LOL!

Yes many moons ago 12 Mile Creek Valley was a pheasant hot spot but with human population expansion the ideal terrain for pheasants was lost and birds just disappeared.
You might not even recognize this area if you were to visit. All the grass fields and vineyards are gone. Of course city limits have expanded to encompass this area as well for expanded sub divisions.


Niagara On The Lake also used to be a hot spot and there is only a few sparse pockets that still hold birds. Trying to get permission to hunt unless you know someone is like winning the lottery.

A club in Thorold use to released pheasants for a few years behind BeaverDams along Seaway property and that was great hunting for a few weeks every year. Now with so many hiking trails going through there the Seaway no longer allows hunting on their property. Hence the pheasant release program was stopped.

In West Lincoln I understand that there are still a few release sights but kept very quiet for club members only. If you happen to stumble across a group hunting a specific area you may get lucky and shoot a few released birds.

For many years I used to be happy just to get 3-birds. One bird was put away for Christmas dinner and the other 2 enjoyed with friends. Now I would settle for 1-fat pheasant a year to enjoy.

ohh thank God you said United Nations, they are about effectual as the Green party in making policy changes...LOL...

I'll have to melt and mould enough lead to cover the grandfather clause :)
