Call custom Canada about the returning trip home. They don't care if you take firearms out of Canada, but you need to call US custom about bringing firearms to the US. If you are going through NY state, find out if there are any state requirements.
You need tofill out a Form 6 and submit it to the US federal bureau of alcohol firearms andtobacco well in advance of your trip and wait for the return copy that you will provide to the US agent at the boarder. Include your USA hunting license as well.
I make 2 annual trips down, no problems.
Stop at Canada Customs on the way out and get a Y38 card for your non restricted firearm to show that it is Canadian goods returning when you come back. Also have your valid PAL with you on the return. Make sure you talk to US customs about their requirements.
Bandwagon is correct. You have to fill out the form with the firearm info and the ammunition you are bringing and you also need an American hunting license, I bought a WV small games license when I went. When the paper work returns, give that paperwork to the customs officer when you cross and again on the way back. I also called about the requirements for bringing the hog back and their were no special requirements. Deer etc is another story, we just gutted our hogs and brought them back whole.
You can fax the Form 6 application to them, and a copy of a US hunting licence, but it will take weeks to get your Form.

As stated complete the form and fax with a copy of a state licence. If you supply your e-mail address they did e-mail my application back. This process during the summer took about 4 weeks.

Ok, here is another question if I may? Skeeter, not trying hijack your thread, but I think this might fall into a similar situation?
A buddy of mine lives in Ohio and has invited me many times to come down for a deer hunt. It's shotgun only and since I don't have anything good enough to use, he has told me that he can let me use one of his. So I'm not entering the U.S. with a firearm or ammuntion, but I'll be carrying a borrowed one while there hunting. Where does this fall into the law? Anyone know?
