Hi,
I am pretty new at that sport and I am very interested into this one, Browning X-BOLT WHITE GOLD. The style of the gun is very important for me and I love it, please don't try to push me to buy another gun. Just tell me what you think of this one, the good and the bad.
Also, what would you choose for deer and moose (both), 270 WSM or 300 WSM ?

I have three X-bolts. I like the 60% bolt handle, it ensures good clearance from the scope when cycling in the next cartridge. Each of my X-Bolts shoot well below 1 MOA (I reload).
The barrels are made in Japan and are one of the highest quality in the market.
My friend actually owns a White Gold chambered for 30-06. It is a thing of beauty.
The WSM cartridges do provide added performance but they come with an added price. If you want to shoot regularly you might want to consider another cartridge type unless you reload your own ammo. A 30-06 or a 270 Win deliver great perfomance and they are readily available and don't cost $70 for a box of 20
The WSM calibers are going to be hard to find especially if you forget your ammo and are looking up North. Even down here unless you load your own there are limited choices and supply. As for the gun, can't go wrong with a Browning, good luck.
Great rifles as others have and will say but for me I could do without that ultra shiny high gloss stock. I had an A bolt medallion and one day on a coyote hunt in January by buddy radioed me to say my gun was shining like a freakin beacon 3 fields away. It was deadly accurate and killed quite a few critters and I will never know if the shine ever scared any away but I would of preferred a classic hand rubbed oil stock. My .2 cents.
I have one in 7-08 and it is a great gun that shoots consistent groups below 1 inch at 100 yards. My only comment would be that the action is a little stiff compared to say my Tikka or my Sako.
I just didnt like the way the X-bolt or A-bolt fit me. That Gold mediallion is a very nice gun. I had a Medallion .300winmag that was a pleasure to carry but ended up selling it for a Sako.
I'd hate to have to take that gold mediallion into the bush and add some character to it.....Too pretty for me LOL
I'd choose the .308rem for both moose and deer. Not a fan of WSM cartridges.....
If you are concerned about the stock (shining, getting dented or grip) you can always wrap it in self adhesing camo tape. I have wrapped mine in order to break up the outline when I am hunting in concealed spots.
All of my X-Bolts have composite stocks so I am not as concerned about dents. As for smoothness of the action...it can be remedied with some polishing and a the right amount of oil. The X-Bolts do take a bit of cycling the bolt to get the feel. Personally I like the positive feel of the stops and racking action.
I have 1 chambered in .300 Win Mag. Love the gun. Shoots Barnes Vortex well under 1" @ 100. Trigger is great, recoil is manageable. Topped off with Meopta Meostar 3-10 x 50 and dnz rings. Highly recommended... Here are a few pics. Jeff

great rifle but I to would stay away from the wsm .some rifles you get one less in the mag with the wsm as well .thy just do not add up with the price off ammo and finding ammo .a 300 mag or 308 even a 270 will do everything you want and need .do not worry about the finish if a animal is close enough to be scared of the shine he is close enough to be scared of the boom .Dutch
The X-Bolt is a nice rifle. A friend had picked up the Medallion in .270 Win during Summer and asked me to zero the rifle. The rifle shot under an inch @ 100 yards with Federal Vital Shok Nosler Partition.
Early Nov, first day of the hunt, on his way to the blind the rifle (encased in a soft case) slid from his shoulder and landed straight on it's butt (pun intended) on the ground from aprox distance of couple feet. And the following was what he discovered upon reaching his blind! The rifle was perfectly fine when he had transferred that from his hard case to the soft one. Fortunately, he carried a spare for the hunt. Browning is sending him a new stock.
