larson bird trap wont work

BOught a larsen bird trap

biggest problem is crows!! so loud and and they kill each year all birds i put up in their nest boxes as soon as they fledge! Not to mention all my baby quail.

Starlings and grackles also. I thought i liked them and would be cute to have them but they nested in my shed and caused a huge mess and holes all over last year cost a lot of fix up. We put up a bunch of northern flicker and blue bird nest boxes. the starlings totoally took those over and beat the other birds silly.

ANyways I attempted to trap them but its not working none of them even came near the trap? any idea what im doing wrong? I put up a owl decoy but that did not even work.. .

It is a live trap.

Not legal to do what you're attempting to do (unless you've been issued a special licence from CWS, or have a licenced pest control business). Better check this out before you start using that trap.

why would be illegal to trap black birds and crows .there is open season all year with no limits .I have seen a lot of these traps on farms around home Dutch

its legal and the song birds arent getting touched actually NO birds are getting touched u know why?

soon as the bird jumps in and the trap is set the bird jumps back out the top has a gap the crows/starlings are still able to climb out in seconds


they eat the food and jump out

now a cat caught onto this and is wating for a bird to make the sorry mistake of jumping in so he can get a chance of catching one no i will never try and trap the cat

Re: legality of bird traps. Fine and dandy if you can somehow convince the bird world that only the 6 or 7 listed species under the MBCA are allowed to go into the trap. If your friendly Constipation Officer, or CWS Game Officer pays you a visit, and you have any other species in the trap, be it incidental, you get a lovely piece of paper. Happened to a friend of mine - American Tree Sparrows mixed in with House Sparrows in the barn catch. I've used them under CWS permit before. Difficult to keep jays out of them . Rusty Blackbirds get commonly caught, as they usually tag along in the RW Blackbird or Starling flock. Call MNR and ask to speak to Enforcement for clarification.

okay you have a point i guess it is not worth the risk and i saw some horrific sites of birds getting necks caught reminds me of a leg trap


what about the brown rat? they are horrible coyotes are not doing their jobs here they must come from the river and sewers my dog and cat have killed a few and get this they are all HUGE i measured they are all almost a foot! check this one out my cat killed, are they protected even though they dont belong?Attachment 27990

I uase to have huge outdoor avairy for my toucans until rats and a few bird species ruined it all.

I could set the trap at night so no birds would get in?

Trap away on Norway rats. No issues there. I kill lots around my chicken coop. Tie your rat traps to something or the big ones might drag it away . I use half a ju jube as bait. Make sure you stab it onto the bait holder. There teeth get stuck in it.. I sweeten the ju jube with a bit of peanut butter. In wet weather I also lube the mechanism with peanut butter to keep it working.
