Deer feeder problem

I have a Moultrie deer feeder. It's one of the feeders that consists of a 5 gallon can and a turntable that spins underneath. You can control the amount of feed tossed but the feeding time is dawn and basically dusk.

The turntable refused to turn once the weather got fairly cold. I replaced the battery and once you hand turned the table it would spin upon testing. Shortly after that it would stop turning again.

Anyone had this problem and if you have is there any kind of long term solution. WD40?

I don't have one myself, but I don't know if you want wd-40 coming in contact with your feed, not sure how a cooking oil / spray may pan out for you?

Sounds like the lubricant they used is stiffening up in the cold.

Have to remember that WD40 is a penetrant, not a lubricant. You'll want to find something like a lock de-icer that has a cold weather lubricant built into it.

Maybe food grade silicone spray such as that used with meat grinders and meat slicers. Can be bought in a spray or liquid where ever food processing equipment is sold.

Dry graphite or a Teflon washer

Thanks guys. The plastic turntable spins on top of a small shaft that might be sticking. Could also be the tiny electric motor doesn't like the cold. I'll try your suggestions. It seems to resist start-up. Once it starts it spins properly.

I have a moultrie feeder and what I found was water got into the motor drive and corroded everything. I tried to clean it up and seal it but ended up buying another brand motor and spinner from gander mountain and installing it in place of the original motor. Mine is a tripod unit so I originally paid abit for it and was quite disappointed with it. Now has worked flawlessly for the past 3 yrs
