Sound Advice

Sound Advice from the "Experts ".
I picked up another Reloading Manual at a gun show , Modern Reloading Second Edition , compiled by Richard Lee of Lee Precision , makers of Lee Reloading Equipment.
This is for all " Smokeless Powders " in chapter 8 , "All About Pressure " one paragraph in particular caught my eye, it states ,

"A duplex load is a concoction of fast and slow burning powders in an attempt to sustain peak pressure longer. It does not work, so do not try it. It's very unpredictable and extremely dangerous. Never mix powers.
It mentions various things that have been tried. Then goes on to say ,

The schemes above are mentioned to point out that almost everything's been tried. Ammunition making is a well developed art where there is little room for improvement. Stick to proven loads .There is a wealth of excellent load data available. This is not an area that experts can improve on so there is little chance for amateurs to succeed.

There you have it , in black and white from experts in the field, "warning of dangers of duplex loads " using smokeless powders, as we do in our smokeless muzzle loaders.

So you don't think blended/mixed powder is in use today. By some big manufacturers?....

And how much testing and professionally trained Engineers do you think they employ. Not that America is litigation happy? What kind of accuracy could you guarantee in your blending process? Once something goes wrong and you end up in emergency with half your face blown off will you still feel " adventuresome" or stupid?

It's ALWAYS the pioneers that take the first arrows. lol

I don't mix/stack commercial reloading powders for centerfire and don't recommend it to others, although Elmer Keith did Duplex and Triplex loads IIRC.

These are not duplex loads as normally thought of.
Plus they have expert ballisticians that do it for a living also the facilities to test these loads in safety and for safeness, with hundreds of thousands of dollars invested, which the amateurs do not have

What I think does not matter , it is what the experts know.
as quoted from the article in the book;
"This is not an area that experts can improve on so there is little chance for amateurs to succeed. "

I am only reiterating what is said by experts in the field/business, why shoot the messenger .

Easy now

Not saying this is a good idea for centerfire. This was posted in MZ forum remember. Duplex loads in a MZ are not what the author is referring to so lets get that straight and not the same by a country mile.

Take a look at the loads and realize these are not the same.

Actually the issue here is people promoting duplex loads using smokeless powders in a Savage ML10 smokeless muzzle loader which is a muzzle loader mostly by technicality. this gun is subject to multiple lawsuits due to user error and untrained people treating smokeless powder like black powder. Over load a blackpowder charge by 15% and it just makes more noise. With smokeless powder you could destroy the gun and end up in emergency. Promoting the use of duplex smokeless loads by amateurs is extremely irresponsible. If you are not a trained expert in a well equipped lab with extensive test equipment as all powder manufacturers have, you are an amateur. What you choose to do is your own business but you shouldn't be discussing that here.
