I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread- went back to Dec.
What do I need to take to have my dogs cross the border with me? Anything but rabies info. ? I don't have any purchase papers , so how do they know I didn't buy the dogs in the States? Thanks.
Do my medications have to be taken in the pharmacy bottles?
When I imported mine as a pup he was younger than 3 mths so no rabies but they needed a vet certificate of health. After 3 mths they needed vaccination papers.

Proof of up to date rabies. And if you are going over for more than a couple of hours and are planning on taking food, take an unopened bag with you (that shows it was manufactured in either Canada or the US) or plan to buy food while there.
I took my shepherd over couple weeks ago...............didnt request anything,,,,,,,,I asked customs...wan see his passport,,no not this time was the answer.........but rabies shot has to be 30 days old,,,,,not sooner
Proof rabies and have had the rabies done the day before I went to the US. Most of the time 90% they never ask me for proof of rabies.

-Personal use amounts of equine meat or meat products that is commercially packaged and labeled will be allowed in passenger baggage and mail: no import permit or other documentation is required.
The pet food must be sealed in commercial packaging (un-opened)indicating either Canadian or US country of origin. Please check the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Web site for importation updates. Pet food containing lamb, sheep or goat meat is still prohibited.

I have brought over open bags of food without issue. It's like everything else when dealing with the border, it's depends who is sitting in the booth. I always make sure the food is at the back of the truck with the ingredients up so that they can see what they need easily without moving things around.
So have we .... But after a recent post on another forum, if you do not want to "donate" food to US customs (in case you have the agent you do not want) .... If you are transporting more than a "weekend's worth" of food, I would take an unopened bag along!Quote:
