Has anyone experienced this with there dogs......vet told me that is what my dog had...she gave me meds and a shampoo to wash his chin with.....chin cleared up and meds ran out, now its back again.....just want to know if anyone else has had this sort of thing with there dog.....i have a chocolate lab and it just seems to be one thing after another with him.....chin gets rough and swollen around the bottom jaw lip line with sores that look like boils and hair loss in this area.....
Sounds more like your.dog has allergies
What was the drug your dog was on.
Is his bowl plastic or stainless steel? If plastic, I would change to a metal bowl which can be thoroughly cleaned to ensure that once the infection is cleaned up on the chin, he's not picking anything back up from his food dish.
My male had this and like Sue says switching him to a metal bowl cleared the condition right up. I always thought he must have had an allergy to the plastic.
Both his food and water dishes are ceramic......corning ware, cleaned after each use......can't remember the name of the antibiotic but i am getting more today for him...yellow pill fair size to it and the cleanser to rub infected area is called Habitane......
I would still try a stainless steel bowl.
My first Lab had this condition, which then progressed to interdigital cysts between the toes. It was an autoimmune condition, probably caused by puppy strangles. Systemic staph condition that some dogs will never grow out of. Expensive antibiotics (Clavamox) would clear it up, then it would come back as soon as you stopped the meds. we had a smart vet. She took a scraping of the boils, and sent it away to OVC in Guelph. They made a specific vaccine up for our dog. Wasn't bad for price - maybe $200. Dog was good to go after a series of shots. Not sure if you can get this done anymore.
puppy strangles if not caught and treated would have killed his pup. Scrape tests for allergies are a lot more than 200 now. easiest quick test would change dishes to stainless and start to research this condition. not all vets will put the effort forward to research beyond their area of expertise.Quote:

only place it seems to be is his lower lip line on lower jaw.......as said earlier, the meds work but it seems to come back....this is twice now .....
