Nice to see an old patch and ball shooting out that far....

Not such great grouping but it sure would have irritated the French while they were coming into range of the Redcoats and their Brown Bess muskets.

Mike, have you read the Richard Sharpe novels by Bernard Cornwell (featuring the Baker rifle)

Yea the 'historical' claims of accuracy with the Baker sound like the Historical claims of some of the deer killed at my Hunt Camp :)

I've never read the books, but I vaguely remember watching a few episodes of the TV series called 'Sharpe' when I was in West Germany and we got British TV. It was good but I forgot all about it till you mentioned it. I'll have to put them on my 'To Read' list, they sound good.

The books are SO much better than the TV shows. No comparison! I think they had a budget of $1.98 for the shows.

They do have that 'Canadian' TV look to them...something else we inherited from the Monarchy ..LOL...

I was thinking about his 200 yd grouping with that Baker.....the reality is, that even 22" x 12" grouping (with open sights no less) is still a center of mass shot for a soldier. Four of those shots would have killed/maimed an opponent.

Pretty good for a patch and ball.

The tactics of the Rifle Regiment was to act as skirmishers- to harass the French column and to pick off officers. Even a a greater range than 200 yds you could lob one of those big .62 cal lead balls into the mass of the column and hit one or more French soldats.
