FYI- BC veterinary ear cropping ban followup

As a followup, the CVBC is about to pass a ban on ear cropping in the province. To do so they need approval from the Minister of Agriculture. The APPD is urging people to write the Minister in a last ditch effort to prevent the ban: http://www.appd.ca/pettion-results.html

This is difficult to interrupt as whether it is a watered down ban on all dog cropping which would include tail docking , or if they are being specific. Regardless, in time tail docking will come an issue. Continental Europe is now a no alter zone with some countries allowing exceptions. The east coast of Canada is a no veterinarian cropping state currently .

Well if they had any integrity they would also include neutering of dogs as it is not usually done for the animal's health but the owner's convenience. Neutering an animal is far more invasive and has more risks than cropping ears. Wonder if the Vet association would support that? What about dew claws? My dog's tail never gets injured or bleeds after a day of hunting, oh that's right he doesn't have one.....

No surprise the CVBC pushed this thru, it was done for their protection.

This great thanks for sharing information, nice to see that people other than the Dog Show community care about what is happening with our Purebred Dogs. Docking, cropping and Dewclaw removal are not cruel, they serve a purpose.

I am not really for ear cropping but I think people need to voice their concerns because if they pass that, tail docking will be next. Tail docking is a necessity in certain breeds like spaniels. I guarantee if my guy had a full tail he would have had to have it amputated by now. It goes a million miles a minute and he goes through some real nasty cover. Our society is run by tree hugging hippies who have no real knowledge of {insert topic}, just strong opinions. People need to get back to making common sense something a little more common.

When a lefty doesn't like something they demand it get banned. When a Conservative doesn't like something they just don't do it.

With Ontario By-laws being reviewed in a weeks time (June) APPD is holding another poll on whether or not docking, cropping and dewclaw removal should be taught in our Vet. colleges?
