ticks in Niagara Region

hey folks, just a quick health and safety share, I have been working around St Catharines the last few weeks and have had two ticks on me, I was not out in the bush but working in tall grass around the side of the road. Not sure but there seems to be a lot more this year than past as I have never gotten one on me before and within 1 week, I had two. Just wanting to remind my fellow hunters to use bug spray and/or other methods of preventing these little buggers from biting you and possibly infecting you with Lyme. There a lot in niagara and they creep me out big time...there is a product from Sawyers that is suppose to work for ticks.

Looks like we got them here in Brant County too... so double check yourself when you get home.....Be safe

Ticks just love it when hunter season starts. They wait all year for opener. Hope we don't get tagged by any of them creepy little,,,,,,,,

The wife says they've been pulling them off folks for about a month now in the ER....not sure if it's worth the trip in, but they automatically give you a dose of doxycycline which helps to prevent getting sick from the bite.

I assume the doxycycline is prophylaxis for Lyme disease? Nice to see them taking that seriously... so many people have been sickened by that nasty bacteria.

Yes it is...in fact the staff at the ER would like them to sell it as an over the counter drug at the pharmacy....

Doxycycline strips the body of bacteria, it is used for Malaria prevention as well, evil stuff, I will never take that again, I will get an alternative.

Yes and no. Doxy does not strip the body entirely of bacteria, it merely interferes with certain bacteria and inhibits their ability to produce proteins needed for them to survive. Thus, stopping the spread of infection and the rest of the cells die on their own or are killed by your immune system. If it stripped the body of bacteria you'd be in a world of hurt, the body has a huge number of good bacteria. The stomach is a giant party for bacteria!

If you took it and had negative side effects, those are very common. I'd still take Doxy of many other anti-malaria meds.

M area is loaded with them , especially on the long grass areas . Pull about 40 a day off of my pants and gear , throughout the course of a Day in the woods chasing gobblers ,
