An adventure to start the season!
Every May a group of friends head up to Waterfalls Lodge in Spanish Ontario, part of Algoma region, and there is always a story or two that comes back with us. These are the fishtales that surround this years trip!
This year things where a little different. I was unable to head up until Sunday, so myself and the new guy Mark met the usuals at Waterfalls Lodge. We made a stop on the way as a friend was visiting his hometown near Sturgeon Ontario. We started off fishing Lake Nippising on Sunday morning. The plan there was White Bass in the morning and Pike through the rest of the day. The White Bass did not cooperate, but the pike where willing to play, as where some incidental Smallies and Largies. Despite moving and trying as many areas as we could, we seemed to find Bass everywhere.
The Anglers Choice Sniper Shad and Stike King Rage Blade produced the most fish.

After tackling Nippising, we packed up and traveled west to Waterfalls Lodge and went to sleep. We woke up to -2 temps and the lake water dropping 10 degrees! That definitely put the fish in a lockjaw kinda mood, so on to jerkbaits, swimbaits and dropshot's! (Note* bass are open all year round in this area) Mark managed to land himself some beautiful pike and walleye, and I landed a new personal best walleye and some awesome smallies. No surprise here, but the Anglers Choice Sniper Shad was the hot ticket again!

On Friday morning we had to pack up and head to Bobcaygeon for the Canada/US Walleye Tournament. We where not fishing in the tournament, Mark and I where working with Tracker Boats and Bass Pro Shops at the trout pond they had set up for kids to fish in. Not that we didn't get any fishing in, before the event started we spent time in the docks fishing for pan fish. I managed this one slab bluegill and many other perch and rock bass.

We got home Sunday night, unpacked, did laundry, spent two days at work, then I hit a river for some fly fishing fun! Little did I know I would come across a late dropback steelhead! My 10' 5 wt was surprisingly enough to help land this guy, and I'm still in awe about it!

All in all, it was an incredible string if days! The cold front made it so we had to actually work for fish for the first time at WaterFalls Lodge, and I will never complain about a surprise steelhead!
An adventure to start the season!
I do not believe they are open in the winter, but I could be wrong. I think I fixed the photo issue...lol
