I am looking at hunting waterfowl this fall in mitchells bay ontario. Does anyone know the areas that are public hunt areas and how do you go about it. I have a duck boat almost rigged out and will have the necessary decoys and calls. The problem is its so hard to figure out what the right areas are to hunt and what are good areas to hunt. Any help would be appreciated.
There are 2 ramps at mitchells bay, close together, the town marina or bass haven just down the road. The whole bay is open to hunting within i believe 200 meters from shore or vegetataion growth. Along most shores are posted where you can not go. There are some duck blinds but most use floating blinds. Very shallow in the bay so be careful. I can tell you this you won,t be the only guy out there, very busy on weekends. Ifyou want a good map of the area go to bass haven .ca

If I were you I would avoid opening morning, there are a lot of hunters and many that think they own the lake. Even if you wait till the afternoon shoot to get your bearing and see the high pressure areas that are consistently hunted.There is good hunting almost all season long, I personally would only hunt out of a boat there to get away from others and to avoid confrontation. I have no idea about stag though. Also you can launch out of the bay, basshaven, kleins and lighthouse.....maybe more but those are the ones I know of.
i have hunted walpole with a guide and it was ok but need at least 4 guys to make it worth while. and fairly expensive as well. We did however get some great shooting from the blind but it was set up with the wind to our back and guide wouldn't move. My understanding is there will be more pass shooting when in the bay from a boat. my recent purchase was an 18' aluminum boat and will be outfitting with a nice blind.
I have bee there for waterfowl twice and we hunt right after a 1000 yards away from marina and the only place you can not hunt is in the indian reserves.
