Ducks and Geese - Spring vs. Fall

Hi everyone,
Long time reader, first time poster.

I am hoping to get into field hunting for ducks and geese this fall but have not obtained permission anywhere yet. I was thinking about whether I should start looking around and knocking on doors or if it’s still too early. What do you guys think? If I see ducks and geese in the fields now will they likely come back in the fall?
Until now I have done all of my waterfowl hunting over water so this is all new to me.
I have heard a lot of guys suggesting waiting until august, but there is a lot of competition in my neck of the woods so I don't want to miss out.

I'd start looking now. If you do some research on google maps or google earth first, you can find some suitable properties. Check the types of crops growing. If you have an OFAH membership, be sure to mention the insurance coverage that you have through this. If you find some water near wheat, bean or corn fields, these can be great places to hunt.
( juts be sure that when you go to the farms that it's not when you see a lot of machinery working the fields.)
