help to identify this shrub

These shrubs or bushes seem to take over in certain cleared out areas of this old farm. They are approx. 6 feet hight at the moment, have big thorns like a long stem rose and those small "fruit" smell very strongly like citronellawhen crushed. In other areas the are not as high and have very little to no fruit or seed. Thanks for the help

Good old prickly ash. Nasty stuff to walk in to. It will leave you scarred for life.

X2 on Prickly Ash. Those thorns can pop holes in ATV tires if you hit them the wrong way. Those and Carolina Buckthorn are worse than a board full of nails.

X3 on prickly ash. Natives used them and still used today for different ailments and heralding procedures.

Years ago when I walked creeks for wood ducks my arms and hands looked they went through a meat grinder. Nasty little to work your way through.
