Wonder what will happen here in Canada? Having the Barrie Cabelas so close was handy.
Less competition is never a good thing for consumers.
As long as they keep the mail order business in Canada, they'll be OK,but,BassPro ships directly from their US warehouse and Canadians get pounded silly with extra duty, exchange and shipping fees making it prohibitively expensive to buy from them. There's still plenty of competition in Canada. This deal won't make a whole heck of a lot of difference.
Bps is only considering an offer at this point, still a long way to go before it's a signed deal.
i hope it don't happen I love cabelas brand gear and I would guess bps would just cheapen the quality on stuff like they do with their redhead brand. Just my opinion.
means we all pay more and get less-
Why would they not?
These things (if it happens) are not done to make things better for us. I'm not sure what the overall plan is, or will be, but having two bass pros less than 30 minutes along the same hwy is not likely part of the long term plans.
It will be interesting to see what they do, right now if you start at the Lake in Etobicoke there is a Sail, LeBaron, Sail in Vaughan, Bass Pro and then Cabelas in Barrie (never been to). The Cabelas Barrie store draws from a wider area especially North, the current Bass Pro draws from Toronto and a wide area surrounding it and of course GTA.
I know I haven't been in the store in Barrie and it has been months since I went to the BassPro and if I hadm't had other business in the area I would probably have made a special trip. Now the mail order there have been two items I wanted at different times and I rounded the order up with a few small items to get to $100 to get the $99 shipping free. My Dad used to order from SIR before they got bought alot out by Cabelas 20 years ago now (and after he died so did I).
But with the fees, duty etc I have never ordered anything from BassPro mail order, I don't even check their prices online, I look at Canadian tire (lousy online catalogue though) Sail (lousy online catalogue too), LeBaron (lousy online catalogue with the PDFs), and Cabelas. I am more likely to buy it from Amazon or ebay if it is available there than try and figure out the idiotic BassPro webpage, the only reason I would go there is to check out some reviews.
Maybe, SIR bought it quick when they got bought out, just as long as they keep the Cabelas online, it is far far better than the BassPro page. Canadian tire in some stores has been improving alot too, I went in to the Georgetown one awhile ago and their hunting section was being expanded and already was pretty good. (especially compare to the nonexistent hunting sections in the Brampton stores). For the SKS fans they had a real nice one for $199 when I was there but with the Liberals in power semi's will be going cheaper until we know what they will do.... and if we do what I think from comments I have heard there will be a demand for large plastic pipe and caps, vaseline and the moisture absorbing packs... most people already have a shovel., maybe a few post hole diggers?
Agreed! A small difference in price is worth it to get more competition and help the individual.
