Boe's first pheasant
My 10 month old Welsh Springer is exceeding my expectations as a bird dog. Especially since this is my first dog, and my first attempt at training. I think his skills come naturally rather than through anything I have done.
I have had him out four times in the past 10 days. Twice we went to a game farm where I let him work on planted Chukars. He found 9 of the 10 birds and I managed to bag all of them.
Then a day in the duck blind. Nothing much was decoying, but we did manage one Old Squaw. Boe didn’t retrieve it, but he did handle it and carried it for me.
Today we went out for pheasants. These birds had been released a few days ago so were quite active. Boe found this guy in thick cover and forced it out into the open. The bird was very vocal and a runner, but Boe kept after him and got him into the air for my shot. He did not retrieve it, but he did go to it and kept it in place for me to pick it up.

Well done. Good looking dog. The welsh's are great bird dogs. Wish we had more "natural" bird opportunities around here.
