DUC brings conservation program to Ontario

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is bringing its Revolving Land Conservation Program (RLCP) program to Ontario. That program is designed to triple the amount of acreage saved and preserved.

Under RLCP, DUC will buy a parcel of Ontario property and restore its wetland and upland habitat, over a period of two or three years. During that time, a perpetual conservation easement will be placed on the property to protect it from commercial or industrial development and safeguard the wetlands from drainage.

The property will then be sold and the proceeds used to purchase more land.

Purchasers may continue to use the lands, constrained only by the terms of the conservation easements, knowing that they are protecting habitat.

In western Canada, the RLCP has revolved more than 9,000 acres, valued at more than $5 million, since its inception in 2013.
