February National Championship

I was reading the recaps of the daily braces. Some dog were picked up for a breach of manners. What does that mean, fighting, stealing a point or what?

Breach of manners refers to errors on bird work (excessive movement on flush or shot, busting birds, chasing birds, failure to back etc.)

Are the birds shot and killed to produce/judge steadiness and retrieve in these trials?

This much I know. This game is all about the point. Blank gun shot after the flush, no retrieve.

And the hunt.

".........must give a finished performance and must be under reasonable control of its handler. It must show a keen desire to hunt, must have a bold and attractive style of running, and must show independence in hunting. It must range well out in a forward moving pattern, seeking the most promising objectives, so as to locate any game on the course. Excessive line-casting and avoiding cover must be penalized. The dog must respond to handling but must demonstrate its independent judgment in hunting the course, and should not look to its handler for directions as to where to go. The dog must find game, must point staunchly, and must be steady to wing and shot. Intelligent use of the wind and terrain in locating game, accurate nose, and style and intensity on point, are essential..... backing when necessary." quote

PS: To qualify for this this Championship the dog has to have already won some challenging events/championships.
