I was just wondering if I can get ANY channels without getting a dish and scrambler (money!)? I have an old metal antennae and a dish as well as some round RV Satellite thing, and I tried hooking my TV up to all 3 but just a dead screen? Do I have to have some descrambler or receiver to pick up channels? I am close to Bannockburn, burn in the woods pretty deep, so not even sure if I have any channels in my area?
I appreciate ANY help or advice on getting TV at camp.

Your TV has to have an HD receiver in it to start, or you need an HD receiver box ( converts HD signals to old TV frequencies). Then you have to know how high .to put the antenna. On a hill top you are better off then in a valley.Quote:

Enter your location – Either Address (Provence and postal code) or Coordinates
A Map will be displayed – At the bottom Enter the height of your antenna
All the stations in the area will be displayed below the map.
Click on the station you wish be checked and a coloured overlay of the signal strength will be displayed

Also, I have found a YouTube video which shows how to make a HD video with coat hangers, a 1X4 piece of wood, screws and 75 OHM balum (radio shack) makes a wonderful HD antenna for 5 bucks. Granted, I hunt the Ottawa area and I get 13 channels, PBS, TVO, CBC, French one and a couple from the states. If you get a newer TV that has a HD compatible receiver, then no HD box is required. My Truck Camper is solar powered, the TV is LED and I have Boxee Box and a hard drive with 600 movies on it. Total draw on batteries 62watts per hr. But the homemade HD antenna works to pull in the signals.
Must be some simple method to keep your kids interested.....
I got a old satellite for free, installed it myself with help from YouTube videos and the Web, bring my receiver up to the camp when I go, works perfect.
Back in the 50s that's all we would get was the weather channel..snow summer and winter--indoors and outdoors. They were way ahead of their time I guess.Quote:
