14 days ago I sold my faithful (19 year-old) 15 HP Suzuki and bought a brand-new 25 HP Evinrude E-TEC . :happy: --- *** --- What a difference ! --- I've previously owned outboards that developed from 2 to 120 HP BUT have never experienced a 25 HP motor with THIS MUCH torque . --- Whoooofff --- I bet it would even "handle" a slalom-skier . --- The boat (14' deep-V) was loaded with 2 persons (400 + lbs) , 2 tanks of gas (un-necessary) , assorted fishing-gear , paddles , anchor , instruments (Sonar , GPS and two-way-radio) etc. --- In other words : FAIRLY HEAVY . --- Within ~ 2.5 seconds it planed , topping at 41 clicks . --- With me (alone) it would probably hit 50 kms/hr . --- Will check that tomorrow . --- Whisper-quiet , no fumes no oil-slicks . Gas- and oil-consumption negligible . Beats any 4-cycle . --- The evolution of the 2-cycle-engine . --- Almost 200 fewer parts than a 4-cycle . --- 3 years (or 300 hrs) no scheduled maintenance . --- Whewww --- Having been a mechanic , I appreciate that . --- During the last ~ 6 decades I've owned and operated 4 Evinrudes , 1 Johnson , 1 Chrysler , 1 Suzuki and NOW 1 Evinrude (again) . --- I haven't been as enthusiastic about any of the other engines (all of them were good) . --- *** --- I must admit I'm a bit apprehensive in regard to all the electronic crap this new engine employs . Web-research and "pumping" outboard-mechanics re-assured me (really ???) that my choice was a good-one . --- What can you guys tell me ?

I know 3 people with those motors and all 3 have had issues...

How does it troll down for long periods of time...... Does it get rough need to go for a high speed tour ???????

Fantastic motors. I've owned a 90, 150 and now a 225HO. Enjoy the new motor :).

My fishing buddy has one, a 75hp, and its been in the shop at least twice a year for the past 3 years for faulty computers and sensors.

SOFAR , --- I've put ~ 55 hrs. on it and am "tickled-pink" ! --- After experimenting with height and trim the achieved performance-level increased a bit as well . --- Loaded with 2 people (~ 400lbs.) , assorted gear , a couple of tanks etc. I'm "hitting" 42.8 kms/hr. (measured by GPS) . --- Trolling from Point Anne (Belleville) to Napanee (and back again) on less than a 1/4 tank (including a 5 click WOT stretch) is IMO excellent performance . --- It never missed a beat . --- As I've indicated originally I'm a bit apprehensive regarding the electronic "crap" BUT what can I say ?

I have a 75 etec tiller. It was just in for its 6 year tune up. No issues whatsoever. This motor sips gas and oil. No fumes or slick as previously posted. It trolls down and will troll all day with not a hiccup. I imagine the 25 will be the same. I was always a Merc fan. I'm very impressed with this motor. I looked at a four stroke, but the weight difference swayed me over to the etec.

When I see a report like yours about a new design I always wonder why so many?

90 was on my first boat, sold it bought another with a 150. Sold that boat and bought a bigger one. Pretty simple why so many

Have a 50hp going on 7 years now on my 18' Crestliner tiller, no problems, fog the engine before storage in the winter. Serviced last winter at Proctor's, replaced the impeller and changed the gear oil. Over 300 hours on it, never in the shop, will troll at 2-2.5mph, top end 30mph with 3 adults and fishing gear, can run out 12-14 miles and troll for 6-8 hrs and back in on less than 5 gallons of fuel. Pretty intrigued by the 60hp HO. My 50 was originally on a 16' tiller, always like to max on the hp rating.

Had the new 60 ETEC HO out for it's first run last Sunday on Erie. East wind picked up for the run back west from Sandhills, running in 5-6 footers from the stern. The motor is a beast, at least 50% more torque than the 50hp ETEC. Lots of power and easy to control through the swells. I'd definitely recommend the HO option if you're looking to repower and want to max out your rated HP.
